One debt settlement scam that is very much popular in debt settlement is “no hassle” it is an enrollment plan. Many companies contact debtors themselves and ask them to enroll in their debt settlement plan. They do it on phone without knowing debtor’s actual debt amount and other financial details. Of course when some one goes for debt settlement with any company he has to pay their membership dues and other monthly dues but in such case when enrollment is done on phone if debtor plans not to continue work with that debt settlement company he has enrolled on phone he will lose the amount he has paid because it is not refunded.
Another debt settlement scam is debt settlement companies tell their clients that they have negotiated with their creditors and they are agree on their plan while the truth is that they have not contacted to the creditors yet they only send letter to creditor that their debt amount is being held in an account. Customer keep on depositing amount in debt settlement company’s account and also pay their monthly charges but when certain amount is collected that debt settlement company contact to creditors but mostly creditors then do not agree on their plan so that company keep fooling their clients by adopting any legal w ay they can.
To help yourself from these and other debt settlement scams, it is always advised to get some basic knowledge about debt settlements and select the company, not based on its claim but work commitments getting feedback from previous clients can be a good idea. You can also take help from your friends or relatives who have already gone through this process.
