Debt settlement is getting reduction on actual debt amount and the negotiation with creditors about debt reduction can be done in two ways either you work with some debt settlement companies or do it yourself. Many people do not consider a self debt settlement very much effective for debt settlement but if your debt is small amount then hiring debt settlement company is more expensive because you will have to pay its heavy monthly charges it can increase your burden of debt but no doubt it can be more helpful when debt amount is large and you are looking for reduction. Self debt settlement is tougher and includes following step:

    • Prepare your mind that you are going to do this thing on your own. You will face problems but be committed to your purpose and try your best to produce good results.

You should stop monthly installments that you deposit to your creditor’s account for few months so that you can strengthen your point that you are facing financial crisis and you can save this money to pay debt after negotiation. You need to get a debt settlement letter in which you have mention why you could afford this debt previously and why you can not return it now.

    Self debt settlement is a tough task for debtor because he is the only one who can convince his creditors so he should come up with complete information and valid reasons to convince his creditors for reduction but it is true that creditors do not get agree easily they take several months to agree on debtor’s point but one should not lose hope.
